Excitement in the air today as we welcomed Hollywood star Liam Neeson to our state-of-the-art virtual production stages, operated by NantStudios @ Docklands Studios Melbourne.
The facility houses two giant LED ‘volume’ screens that display pre-shot footage or digitally created scenes …in the background while actors perform in the foreground.
Media were invited for a sneak peek of how the technology is streamlining production of Neeson’s blockbuster Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky, an adrenaline-packed feature set in the Himalayas.
Posing with his co-stars, Neeson described the stages as ‘amazing’.

Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky starts filming this month in the historic hamlet of Walhalla which doubles for Nepal, where Neeson’s …Mike McCann embarks on a fight-to-the-death mission to sprinkle his brother’s ashes on Mount Everest.
Joining Liam in the cast are (L to R) Australians Bernard Curry, Grace O'Sullivan and Geoff Morrell, while more than 600 local jobs will be created for crew and extras including 12 locals in Head of Department roles.
The production will also shoot across Melbourne and use the state-of-the-art volume screens and technology at NantStudios @ Docklands Studios.

The future of the Australian screen industry is in good hands, judging by this year's Swinburne University of Technology film and TV student awards. The presentation at Melbourne's ACMI included the screening of 20 short films and trailers produced by students across the final two years …of their course, covering themes as diverse as mental health, the migrant experience, teenage drinking, social media bullying and the highs and lows of share-house living.
