About Us

Docklands Studios Melbourne is a proprietary limited company that opened in 2004. Previously named Melbourne Central City Studios, the studio was first developed as public-private partnership with the Victorian Government. In 2008 the Victorian Government assumed ownership of the business and it now operates as a State Owned Enterprise.

It is Australia’s newest, purpose-built studio complex, part of Melbourne’s Docklands re-development and is situated only five minutes from the city centre. The Docklands is a focal point for business, leisure and entertainment with waterfront hotels, serviced apartments, restaurants, cafes and bars all within a short walk.

Designed with film-makers in mind, the studio boasts five purpose-built sound stages, ranging in size from 743 square metres (8,000 square feet) to 2,232 square metres (25,000 square feet). The stages are supported by six production offices, six workshop bays and ample areas for parking and outdoor set construction. All stages are fully sound-proofed with industry-standard features, including air-conditioning, extraction fans, fixed steel grids, catwalks and ample three phase electrical power.

In 2011 the studio will undergo capital upgrades to its facilities. These include:

  1. Improvements to Stage 5 to make it more suitable for fast-turnaround, audience-based television,
  2. Modifications to the workshop, including partitions, which
will provide greater privacy and allow better utilisation of the building,
  3. General site improvements.
